Barangay Health Workers Eligibility

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) is encouraging barangay health workers (BHWs) to apply for a special eligibility status. This status, called Barangay Health Worker Eligibility (BHWE), is given to BHWs who:

  • Have volunteered for at least five years
  • Have completed two years of college
  • Have not been paid for their work, except for honoraria

This eligibility allows BHWs to apply for permanent government jobs, though there are some exceptions. It also means their volunteer work will count towards retirement benefits if they become permanent employees.

The CSC hopes this will recognize BHWs' important role in local healthcare and give them an edge when applying for government positions.
